The warm weather has arrived!

May 21, 2010

This half term has been very exciting, we have been making robots during our Art and DT sessions. We have been thinking about joining different materials and how our robots might move. We have made our robots from recycling materials. We are very proud of them and lots of people say they look fantastic!  We have been talking about recycling during our Geography sessions too, and we have found out how important it is to try and recycle as much as we can to help look after our environment.

As the weather has now turned warmer, we have been able to have more activities outside. We have even done our spellings outside! Miss Robinson is on the look out for more outside games and activities so we can spend even more time outside.

Please remember your sun hats and suncream!

Our new topic is…..Robots!

April 26, 2010

Welcome back to Silver Class homepage.  Well this is our last term at Queen Mary Avenue and we intend it to be a great one! We cannot believe that the summer term is here already, this year has gone so quickly.

This term we are thinking about and learning about Robots. We are going to be designing our own and making some move on their own too. In science we are going to be looking at what makes things move, and what kind of force is used, will it be a push or a pull??

There is going to be alot going on in Silver Class over the next few months. Our allotment is still looking a bit wintery so in the next few weeks we are going to be gettin g our seeds ready to plant. Hopefully we will be able to make a salad from what we have grown by the end of term.

Thank you for visiting our site, we hope you will come back soon to see whats happening in Silver Class .

Silver Class are currently collecting boxes to make Robots with, please don’t throw any boxes away we would love to have them!

Africa Week!

March 28, 2010

Africa week started on Thursday – We have all been really excited about learning all about Africa.

On Thursday morning Miss Robinson had put out lots of paint and paper plates for our morning sharing time task, it was great painting and collaging paper plates but even more fantastic was that our parents, brothers and sisters where helping us. There really was a great atmosphere in Silver Class!

Not many of us knew very much about Africa, so we used our researching skills that we had learnt earlier in the term to find useful facts. Some of us went to the school library to look for books, the rest of us used the internet. We found out that Africa isn’t one country, it is a continent made up of 54 countries.  No one  knew that Eygpt was part of Africa until Adam put his hand up and told us. Adam has visited Egypt many times and was able to give us a talk about what the country is like. He was really good, and it was good that one of our friends knew so much!

On Friday we finished our African plates with our parents, brother and sisters. They look really good. We have printed on them using different shapes. The most exciting part so far has been tie dying bandanas. We took pebbles and twisted cotton material around it and the used elastic bands to secure the fabric then popped it into either the teracotta or earth green fabric dye. We stirred them in the dye for 15 minutes then left them for 45 minutes. Mrs Robinson took them all out and rinsed them off and started to undo the fabric. Wow!  The bandanas look fantastic.

After all of the hard work we had a great Friday afternoon, we were read two fantastic stories, by a real life author! He was great, used voices and made us all laugh! The best bit was that he asked Miss Robinson and Miss Smith questions about what happened in his stories to make sure they had been listening – Luckily they both had which was good. Thank You  Mr Emptage for a lovely afternoon of stories!

Come back soon to find out what other exciting things we have done during Africa week.

Your shoulder bones connected to your…..

March 7, 2010

Well,  again there has been lots and lots going on in Silver Class.  We have been lucky enough to have had a theatre company come into school and perform ‘The L ion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ . It was fantastic, we watched intently as the characters that some of us  know from the book came to life in our very own hall! When we got back to our class rooms, we made story maps, story mountains and got involved in lots of role – play, some of us even got to dress up as the characters using masks we had made!

We are really lucky in Year 2 as we also had two more visitors to see us. Two paramedics came to talk to all of the year 2 children. It was really interesting, and we asked lots of questions and realised how tricky it must be to do their job. The paramedics brought with them their ambulance, which we got to go and explore. They sounded their sirens too. There are 3 different types of sirens that they use. Do you know the names of them??

Learning all about the body has been great. We know why we have a skeleton, and that it protects our vital organs inside. Learning some of the names of certain bones has been really tricky, but we all remember the ‘humourous’ bone! Finding out about our vital organs has also been interesting, as we now know what they do and what they are for. We think its amazing! Do you know how many bones are in the human body?

What have we been up to?

February 17, 2010

We have had a very busy half term. We have been working really hard and being resilient.

Mrs Rogers has been visiting us every week to cook with us. She talks to us about healthy food, and has taught us some cooking skills. We love baking!

Our role play area is nearly ready, and should soon become the QMA Royal Hospital for Teddies!

A couple of weeks ago Mrs Hill arranged for us to go and visit  the Wellington Street Methodist Church, we had to walk there. We took pictures of our route and pictures of the different religious artifacts we found inside. We had a great time wandering around getting hands on eperience. Most of us got to have a turn at playing the church organ too. Miss Robinson played the organ too, we all sang along with what she was playing!

As part of our topic work we have been researching the Winter Olympics. We had some really good ideas about what kind of sports would be played – jogging, and tennis in the snow where just a couple!

At the end of half term Miss Robinson arranged for us to go and spend the afternoon in the new community room. We had a fantastic afternoon playing. We also had a chinese buffet to celebrate Chinese New Year. All of us tried something that we had never eaten before.

Reminder

P.E days are on a Tuesday and Thursday, please remember your P.E kit!!

New term – New Topic!

January 19, 2010

Happy New Year!

This term our new topic is ‘Fighting Fit’. We are going to be learning all about being healthy and keeping fit. We have already started learning about Florence Nightingale during our History lessons and in Geography we have been plotting Florence Nightingales journey to Scutari during the Crimean War.  ICT is going to be fun this term as for a presentation this term we are going to create a news programme about Florence Nightingale!

We have been looking at where our fruit comes from, and have started to stick our fruit stickers on the correct countries on the big map we have in our classroom.

Star Parade has now changed, we can now invite our parents to come and see us if we are chosen as a star!

Time for a change.

December 14, 2009

Silver Class would like to thank Mrs Dick for all of her hard work this term, she has helped us all so much. Mrs Dick is going to go and work in the Nursery for a while but will be back in a few months! We are going to miss working with her but we will hopefully see her everyday around school :)

Thank you!

Its all going on!

December 14, 2009

It has been a really interesting few weeks here at QMA!

Year 2 have been busily learning songs, lines and dances ready for our Christmas concert. We have all been working really hard and it has paid off as we performed it this morning to all of  our famillies and it was a huge success. Everyone remembered thier lines and their dances!

This week we are working hard on creating Christmas decorations, we are being resilient too as they are quite fiddly to make!

We have our Christmas ball to look forward to on Thursday afternoon. We are all getting dressed up in our party clothes even Miss Robinson is wearing her party dress! Our ball is going to be held in the hall with the other year 2 classes.

Silver Class would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What a week!

October 25, 2009

Well what can we say? We have had such a great week. This week in school has been all about ‘Caring and Sharing’. We have spent the week following instructions, and baking we made chocolate crunch and flapjack. We invited our parents to join us on Thursday afternoon to share our baking and some of the photographs we have had taken of us since September. We wanted to show our parents all the fun learning that we do in Silver Class.  During the week we went on our school trip. We went to Tattershall Castle. It was amazing!  Miss Robinson was ‘Lady Robinson’ for the day and got all dressed up and looked very posh! We also got dressed up and learnt two dances. After lunch we got to walk around the castle and counted 150 steps to the top!

Check out this link to see the art work that our school community got involved in!

ICT!

October 25, 2009

Over the last few weeks we have been going over to William Barcroft Junior School for ICT lessons. We have been learning how to use digital cameras and how to download a picture and save it. We have also been practising our word processing skills too.  We haven’t only been learning about ICT at William Barcroft, Miss Robinson has been showing us how to open, save and close a document, as well as investigating different ways of finding information  ready for our ICT and History project after half term. We can’t wait to get stuck into our project, as we have been taught the skills, we just need to put them into action now. Hopefully we will be able to put some of our work on our website to show you soon.
